The Thrashers were swept in four in their only playoff appearance despite Tkachuk's presence.Ītlanta set back their team lifecycle at least a year with this move. General manager Don Waddell went all in as the Thrashers pursued their first playoff berth. The first round pick ended up back in Nashville's hands and the third was traded by the Flyers to the Caps. Parent was a first round pick the previous year, but only played 100-ish games over three seasons as he couldn't permanently crack the Philly roster, while depth forward Upshall was gone to Phoenix by 2008-09. Forsberg then continued on his stop-and-start comeback journey, riddled by foot and ankle problems. Scottie Upshall F, Ryan Parent D, 2007 (1), 2007 (3)įorsberg averaged nearly a point per game in 22 outings for Nashville, but the Predators were unable to win their first playoff series. But he scored just 26 over the next two, and the right-handed shot Wideman improved to the point where he averaged 40 points per season.īoth players were then dealt ahead of the 2010-11 deadline. This deal seemed a clear win for the Blues after Boyes potted 76 in his first two full seasons. The reliable Gorges is assistant captain in Montreal, while the draft pick was used to select Max Pacioretty. He was the player the Sharks used for the fifth round pick. This trade is a win for the Habs, and could be even more one-sided down the road, especially if Jason Demers continues to sit or is traded in the coming weeks. Kobasew had two of his best seasons with Boston, but what really swings this deal is Ference, in his sixth year with the Bruins. The defenceman was an afterthought for a few years in Boston, but he grew into an integral piece on the blue-line, and even contributed four goals and 10 points in the team's Stanley Cup run last spring. Stuart played just 33 games with Calgary while Wayne Primeau was often hurt in a multi-year tenure. Versteeg wasn't a star for the Blackhawks, but he was a solid contributor in two-plus seasons. May finished with two assists and 41 penalty minutes in 32 regular season and playoff games in Anaheim's run, and stayed for another 1 ½ seasons. The Fonts!Įnough discussion already, let’s get down to business. If it’s supposed to look like something from the 1700s, Helvetica Neue Ultra Light might not be the best way to go. If your content is modern and professional, stick to fonts that suggest these qualities. Think About Which Fonts Are Appropriateįinally, let the content play a big role in your font choice. It’s easy to end up looking like a kid who just discovered the font menu in Photoshop for the first time. In all but the most experienced hands, lots of different fonts wreak havoc on the cohesiveness of a design. If you can get by with two, do it, if not, stop at three. Go EasyĪlso, limit yourself to only a few typefaces. Make it clear to designers and non-designers alike that two distinct styles are present. If you mix two fonts that are fairly similar, the lack of contrast makes it look more like something is slightly off with the typography rather than the intended impression of two different typefaces. Try pairing a bold slab with a light sans-serif. Next, when you’re combining two fonts, go for contrast. These fonts have meticulously been designed to work together and are therefore the safest method of varying your font without creating visual discord. Use Font Familiesįirst of all, when possible, check out the various fonts within a single family. These aren’t absolutes that you must follow in every occasion but merely some guidelines to stick to when in doubt. Since the Google Font Directory is free and has plenty of options, it seemed like a natural fit!īefore we get started, there are a few basic rules that you can keep in mind when combining fonts. However, I’ve used this solution several times on Design Shack before so I wanted to switch things up today and use something else. My personal favorite solution is just to use FontSquirrel’s kits, whether I’m downloading one of their pre-built options or uploading a font file so the site can churn out the rest for me. Now, within the world there are many competitors. If you get developers, designers and the usability guys on board, it’s game over for Flash, JavaScript and image-based solution. Finally, the fact that you can easily cook up an recipe for just about any font means that designers love it because they have a wide range of properly licensed fonts to choose from. Next, the fact that fully supports text selection and actions such as copy and paste means that usability experts love it. First, a pure CSS solution is one that developers can get on board with. There’s also another route to grabbing something like this month’s Hero. Which means the chances of bagging the real thing are slim. The Manta 400 was a homologation special, based on what was (initially) a somewhat lacklustre coupe and made in just sufficient numbers to qualify for international motorsport – 236 or 245 cars produced, depending where you get your facts. Road cars had 144bhp on fuel injection, rally versions 240bhp on twin Webers, that became 275bhp in the final, lightweight Phase 2 cars. The cars shared most mechanical parts: the engine was a developed version of GM’s standard four, with diesel crank in petrol block making 2.4-litres, and with a Cosworth-developed, 16-valve, twin camshaft cylinder head on top. Opel had to build the Manta rally car it had nothing else to use after the Ascona. Then, apart from a triple success in Ireland, it was all over, and the Opel Manta 400 had lasted even less time than Group B itself. When the factory team stood down in 1984, McRae’s AC Delco Manta took the British rally title, and Russell Brookes repeated the feat the following year in his Andrews Heat for Hire car. Vatanen and Henri Toivonen tried their very best (Henri’s mad charge through the Italian hills on the last night of San Remo I will always remember) but it was Jim McRae’s third place on the RAC Rally of Great Britain that gave the car its best ever WRC result. The Rothmans Opel RallyTeam hedged their bets in ’83, starting the year with the more developed Ascona, and sticking with the saloon for Ari Vatanen to win the Safari, before moving into the Manta. It was the logical development to the 1982 Driver’s Championship winning Ascona 400 (Walter Rohrl), but with twowheel- drive and a mere 275bhp it didn’t stand a chance against the potent 4WD, turbo machines lining up on the World Rally stage at the start of the Group B era. The Opel Manta 400 was out of date even before it turned a wheel. In a way, it’s a reluctant motorsport hero. Fancy owning a motorsport legend? It can still pick up something you didn't want, but that's just more reason to be very careful about clearing before placing it. Else it gets very messy and the dynamite might pick up stupid low stuff and be wasted. In order to get better control over what you want to blow up, you need to clear out as much low-item stuff as possible. Don't waste it on a zillion 8-count things. When you use dynamite, you want to use it on high-count items. If you have 1 tree in 1 corner and 1 tree in another corner, 1 dynamite will still work for both, up to its point count. If there is nothing on the ground to blow up, the dynamite will give you a message to that effect and will not let you place it on the ground. If you use a 100 to blow up 11 points, you've just wasted 89 points worth of chopping. If you have one of the large 500 count dynamite barrels and the items you blow up only add up to, say, 350, you'll get "change" in your home storage (in increments of 100). Yes, it will work for anything over 1 count, however, that's an incredibly wasteful way to use it. When you get to the place you want it to hit, click on a clear spot on the ground.
